The Fair Housing Council of Riverside County, Inc. (FHCRC) takes part in a variety of activities to fight housing discrimination, such as free educational workshops, outreach to the community, and the investigation of discrimination complaints.

What is discrimination?

Discrimination occurs when an individual is treated differently based on his or her protected class.  The Fair Housing Act (FHA) prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, financing, or advertising of housing based on one’s protected class.

In addition to the protections granted by the Fair Housing Act, California has expanded upon the list of protected classes.  The following is a list of the protected classes based on Federal and California law.
